The tranquility of Dublin was shattered last night as Gardai seized an AR15 semi-automatic rifle, suspected to be involved in a targeted assassination. The victim, identified as Josh Itseli, 20, fell victim to a violent shooting incident in Drimnagh, sustaining fatal injuries after a vehicular collision just past midnight. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being scrutinized intensely by law enforcement, with suspicions arising regarding the victim’s acquaintances and a potential connection to the narcotics industry.

Authorities are probing whether Josh Itseli was deliberately targeted by individuals known to him, given the intentional vehicular crash and subsequent fatal shooting. Additionally, focus is on a belligerent juvenile offender, known for firearm assaults, who is currently under investigation for a separate attack on a young woman in the city. Concerns regarding his escalating involvement in criminal activities have been voiced by the Gardai.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene as gunshots rang out and vehicles collided, leaving Josh Itseli fatally wounded. Residents reported being awakened by the commotion, reminiscent of scenes from the American frontier, with over 20 gunshots discharged during the incident.

Three individuals, two in their twenties and one teenager, have been detained and are being interrogated in connection with the homicide. The police are examining allegations of around 20 rounds discharged from a high-velocity firearm during the alarming occurrence. Suspicions linger that the incident is linked to the narcotics trade in the southern part of the city.

Superintendent Paul Maher, in a press conference at Sundrive Garda Station, offered condolences to the family of the deceased. He revealed that police received multiple reports of gunshots on Knocknarea Road in Drimnagh around 12:15 am. Upon arrival, officers found two crashed vehicles and Josh Itseli, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from police and paramedics, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Law enforcement urges anyone with CCTV footage in the vicinity of Cooley Road, Brandon Road, Errigal Gardens, Crumlin Road, Slievenamon Road, Mourne Road, and adjacent side roads, to come forward. Any information regarding the incident can be reported to Sundrive Road Garda Station at 01 6666600, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666111, or any other Garda station.
