Michigan State Police have made a significant breakthrough in the case of a woman found deceased next to a Grand Rapids freeway, with the arrest of 25-year-old Brandon Ortiz-Vite. Ortiz-Vite now faces a slew of serious charges, including felony murder, carjacking, and carrying a concealed weapon, according to law enforcement sources. Additionally, it has been revealed that Ortiz-Vite is in the U.S. without legal authorization, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

The arrest of Ortiz-Vite took place on Sunday following his apprehension at a church in Allegan County. He had been under suspicion since the discovery of 25-year-old Ruby Garcia’s body late Friday near downtown Grand Rapids along US-131. Garcia, hailing from the city’s Southwest Side, was tragically identified as the victim in this distressing incident.

Ortiz-Vite’s criminal history casts a shadow over the current investigation, with interactions with law enforcement dating back to 2017. At just 18 years old, he was cited for driving without a valid license in Grand Rapids. Months later, he faced trespassing charges in Wyoming and received probation, which was later revoked due to probation violations.

Further encounters with the law in 2020, including arrests for driving under the influence and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, led to bench warrants being issued against him. Despite multiple brushes with law enforcement, Ortiz-Vite’s legal issues continued to escalate.

Following his recent arrest, Ortiz-Vite appeared in Grand Rapids District Court via video to face the outstanding bench warrant charges. He is currently detained in Kent County jail on a $500 bond.

In a startling revelation, federal authorities disclosed that Ortiz-Vite was deported to Mexico in September 2020, just a month after his arrest in connection with the current case. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation, raising questions about Ortiz-Vite’s presence in the country and his potential involvement in criminal activities despite being deported previously.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working tirelessly to bring justice to Ruby Garcia and her grieving loved ones while untangling the intricate web of Ortiz-Vite’s criminal history and immigration status.
