      The Springfield community is reeling from shock and sorrow as two juveniles from the area have been accused of first-degree murder in connection with the tragic shooting death of Keyon Day on April 24. This development comes on the heels of Day’s funeral at Union Baptist Church, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the profound impact of his untimely passing.

      According to Springfield Police reports, 16-year-old Dremone Patterson is suspected of firing the fatal shots that claimed Day’s life while he was en route to Southeast High School on Taylor Avenue. The firearm used in the shooting, confirmed to be stolen, has since been recovered by law enforcement, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

      Deputy Chief Sara Pickford confirmed that Patterson is facing charges as an adult, including not only murder but also possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm as a member of a street gang.
